This past summer we surveyed our Homeschool.com readers and asked them what three changes they would make to their homeschooling. Now is your chance to learn from the experiences and mistakes of others. As you read through these suggestions, please think about how you can apply these ideas to make your own homeschooling better than ever.

Q: What are the top three changes you would you make to your homeschooling?

    1) Spend more time with students, not get them started and leave the room to do a chore.
    2) Not take phone calls during school.
    3) Not get on computer to look "something" up and then starting checking emails and do work.

    1) Learn according to the child's interests and not the parents'.
    2) Bring more FUN into learning.
    3) Have more interaction with other homeschoolers.

    1) I would relax more & not be so uptight about accomplishing so much.
    2) I would play more games for learning.

    1) Make sure the children are in more social situations.
    2) Address each child as an individual.
    3) Make sure to focus on each child's strengths as well as the areas of study that are not as strong."

    1) Being more organized, without taking too much time to do it.
    2) Find more ways to continue the days learning while still keeping things fun.
    3) Having more ideas for field trips."

    1) More creativity and art.
    2) More intense science projects.
    3) More interaction with other kids.

    1) Be more consistent.
    2) Have more fun.
    3) Be able to spend more time on the children's interests.

    1) To be more relaxed in thinking and teaching.
    2) To get and stay organized throughout the school year.
    3) To do more hands-on experiments.

(Continue reading to discover the "bottom line" of the survey results)

Ablaze Academy takes the worry out of homeschooling. No matter what your position in life, it's difficult to remember everything needed to teach your child at home. This is especially true in the upper grades. Working with teaching guides, answer keys, and grading systems can be frustrating at times.

    The Bottom Line

Here's the bottom line. We had over 400 responses to this survey and most people said that the three changes they would make to their homeschooling would be to...

    1) Work more with their children's interests,
    2) Make homeschooling more fun (by doing more art, more hands-on science projects and taking more field trips), and
    3) Be more consistent in their homeschooling.

Ablaze Academy's curriculum does it all for you and provides reports and portfolios that enable you to easily comply with state requirements. They provide everything you need to give your child an outstanding education.

    Your Homeschooling Resolutions

So, after reading the suggestions of others, what are YOUR homeschooling resolutions?

Q: How can you improve on your own homeschooling this semester?

    A: __________________________________________________________________________

    ____________________________________________________________________________

Q: What three changes would you make to your homeschooling?

    A: 1)_______________________________________________________________________

    2) _________________________________________________________________________

    3) _________________________________________________________________________

TIP: Just by writing your resolutions down, you have an 80% chance of achieving them. So write down your top three changes on an index card and tape it to your bathroom mirror where you'll be reminded of it every day. Remember to write your resolution down in positive language, focusing on what you DO want, not on what you don't want. Not sure what changes you should make? Ask your kids! They'll tell you.
