JASON XIII: FROZEN WORLDS
It's never too late to come in from the cold! Kick-off your child's exploration with this year's live broadcast by ordering your JASON XIII: Frozen Worlds curriculum today!
http://www.homeschool.com/JASON/
From January 28th to February 8th, 2002, the JASON Project will be coming to you live from their expedition site in Alaska. JASON XIII: Frozen Worlds will take parents and children on an adventure to the coldest and most remote regions of our planet and solar system, examining current research in geology, glaciology, biology, astrobiology, oceanography and
climatology. They will focus on amazing plants and animals that survive in these frigid environments, from the largest marine mammals to the smallest microbes.
HOMESCHOOLED ARGONAUTS
Every year a number of students and teachers are chosen to be student Argonauts, joining the JASON team on research trips to expedition sites. This year, Homeschool.com is pleased to announce that two homeschooled Argonauts will be on site in Alaska working side by side with the expedition scientists. Go Homeschoolers! Now, lets meet Drew Allison and Joanne Pelletier...
Drew Allison is a ninth grader who enjoys studying biology and the diversity of life on our planet. Being a student in an online school program has taught him how to maintain an individual study schedule, work independently and use a variety of communication and technology tools. His passion for the outdoors and studying nature in drastic weather conditions benefited Drew when he participated in the Watershed Study from JASON XII in Hawaii. Drew feels that curiosity is vital for increasing knowledge in order to continue finding new and better ways to solve problems.
Joanne Pelletier is a ninth grader whose favorite subject, biology, sparked her interest in the JASON Project. Her participation in online programming has helped her to develop her technological and organizational skills. Joanne's mother, a science teacher, introduced Joanne to biology. She is a member of 4H and enjoys working with horses. She is looking forward to studying many types of animals and their habitats and hopes to become a veterinarian.
TWO WAYS YOU CAN JOIN THE EXPEDITION
A live broadcast of the Alaska adventure will be video streamed on the Internet once a day during the expedition (excluding Sunday Feb 3). Those programs will also be archived. The schedule for these programs will be posted on the JASON website and at
http://www.eds.com/jason/, where the program will be seen online (to view the web cast certain media tools apply - see the EDS website for details).
Does your cable provider carry the National Geographic Channel? The National Geographic Channel will provide one program each day, airing at 2 pm PST, 3 pm MST, 4 pm CST, 5 pm EST.

THE NEXT ADVENTURE
Each year, Dr. Robert Ballard and his world-renowned JASON team mount a major scientific expedition in one or more of the Earth's most fascinating places. You won't want to miss the next JASON adventure! JASON XIV: From Shore to Sea (school year 2002-2003) will engage homeschoolers in an exciting journey to explore the unique Channel Islands region of California. This area includes the Channel Islands National Park, the waters of the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary and the densely populated California coastline, and will serve as our "laboratory" for studying nature's dynamic systems.
