The Importance of Middle School

Middle school education is a critical time period for our students. A national study by the college entrance exam firm ACT reports "the level of academic achievement that students attain by eighth grade has a larger impact on their college and career readiness by the time they graduate from high school than anything that happens academically in high school."

The ACT study goes on to reveal the following:

  • Only 20% of high school grads that were tested were ready for entry-level college courses in biology, social science, English composition and college algebra.

  • Less than 20% of tested eighth graders were on target to be college-ready by the time they graduate.

  • Only 60% of middle and high school students described their curriculum as college preparatory.
  • The ACT study reveals that "students' academic readiness for college and career can be improved when students develop behaviors in the upper elementary grades and in middle school that are known to contribute to successful academic performance."

Keystone Middle School offers a middle school program that meets your student's needs by preparing middle school students for high school, college and career success. Keystone Middle School fuses the three Rs and the four Cs (critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration and creativity and innovation) as advocated by The Partnership for 21st Century Skills.

In addition, Keystone's online middle school courses are supported by certified teachers with online middle school teaching experience.

Grade-level enrollment for middle school includes four core courses that each covers a full academic year (36 weeks) of content plus one elective course that covers half an academic year of content. If you are your child's primary educator, the convenience of Keystone's grade-level enrollment will be especially helpful.

Perhaps your student requires only one or two online middle school courses to supplement his/her homeschool education. Keystone's flexible program lets you select only the courses that your student needs.

Keystone's middle school curriculum is interactive and engaging. The courses are designed using an independent, learner-centered model and our courses draw upon current research in distance learning to make learning come alive in a media-rich environment. Keystone online courses employ the latest educational techniques including graphics, games, and multimedia activities. Keystone's curriculum adheres to North American Council for Online Learning (NACOL) standards. Keystone encourages you to take a closer look at their courses and to review their online middle school course catalog.

Keystone courses will give your child the quality learning experience you expect. If you have questions about course content or selection, Keystone's knowledgeable Student Services Representatives are standing by at 1-800-255-4937 with advice.
