University of Florida Quarterback, Heisman Hopeful

As
the sun beats down on a fall Saturday afternoon in The Swamp, the
Florida Gators prepare to take the field in defense of their 2007 BCS
National College Football Championship. Leading them on to the gridiron
is 6’3”, 235 pound quarterback Tim Tebow, who set numerous high school
records in the state of Florida, has played in college football’s
biggest game, and— was homeschooled. With a national championship under
his belt and half of the ’07 season behind him, the starting
quarterback for the University of Florida is making a strong run for
the Heisman Trophy. Tebow would become the first homeschool graduate to
even be nominated for the award— He spoke with HSI before the season
started about how homeschooling prepared him for life in the spotlight.

Holehouse Continues Success At Penn State
NCAA Volleyball

The
Penn State Nittany Lions volleyball team has a #3 ranking and a
national championship is in site. Junior libero, Roberta Holehouse is
playing a key role in the team’s success. In addition to being a member
of the Academic All-Big Ten team, she also played in all 35matches and 114 games, while moving positions from the squad’s defensive and serving specialist to libero.Her
440 digs led the ’06 team and placed her 9th on the Penn State
single-season chart; and also ranked 8th in the Big Ten. In fact, she
had at least one dig in every match of the season, including 27
double-digit dig matches; and set a new career-high while falling just
short of the Penn State record for digs in a four-game match with 27 in
the NCAA Regional Final match at Washington on Dec. 9th, 2006.-Subscribe Today |

Homeschool Football Success

The
Central Virginia Homeschool Disciples are now in their 3rd full year of
organized football and it’s safe to say they’re more than competitive.
With half of the ’07 season behind them, they have a 6-1 record
including two wins against public school varsity squads. A big
difference from the first year schedule of junior varsity scrimmages.The
team was put together by a group of volunteers from the Central
Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association (CVHAA) who were dedicated to
providing a football outlet for their homeschooled children. The
largest obstacle was outfitting an entire team with equipment— the
resolution: open the door for sponsors to be a part of the team. This
