The Gift of Language

Question:
As you prepare your child for life in a global economy, what gift can you give to them that would help insure their success and would also
  • Ensure higher scores on SAT and college entrance tests
  • Increase cognitive skills, decision making skills, creativity, music and math skills
  • Increase opportunities for careers in business, commerce, world affairs, politics, and humanitarian work
  • Increase speaking and comprehension skills in their native language
  • Not require any great financial investment?

Better Late than Early

For younger children, the emphasis is usually on building a solid foundation in reading, writing, and basic math. Where schools believe in starting formal learning as early as possible, most homeschoolers believe in delaying formal studies until the child is seven or older. This allows the child to mature physically and emotionally before she is asked to sit down and study.

Teaching Literature with DVDs

Movies and video documentaries can be indispensable for motivating learners, engaging their curiosity and embedding concepts that might otherwise slip away. Even reading and literature can be enhanced and strengthened through the use of DVDs.

The Dr. Cook Detective Series!

A recent report by the National Commission on Writing report, found that 75% of high school seniors never receive writing assignments in social studies, and do not perform long-term projects. The same report found that 50% of high school freshman are "unable to analyze or synthesize information."

Mad Dogs and Englishmen

“Summertime and the livin’ is easy”, or so the old song goes. Most of us know that even though summer is supposed to be relaxing; family vacations, social events, lessons, sports activities and of course the dreaded cry, “Mom, Dad, I’m bored!” often create an atmosphere of pressure and stress. Making literature and writing a part of summer activities can be a good way to slow down and enjoy these precious summer hours.
