It is widely accepted that one-on-one tutoring is probably the most effective method to improve academic achievement. Penn Tutors offers students (and families) the opportunity to find the assistance they need, when they need it, through their distinctive tutoring services.

1. One-to-One Tutors – Individual sessions allow tutors to focus exclusively on the student and to tailor the session to his/her needs.

  • Each student is assigned one tutor for the duration of the subscription plan, which is different from what most tutoring companies offer.
  • The student and tutor negotiate a schedule for the duration of the subscription plan.
  • Tutoring can be designed around students who want to keep up, those looking to improve, or even students wanting to get ahead.

2. Tutoring Sessions – Penn Tutors uses a technology that makes tutoring sessions convenient, personal and effective, while saving time and money.
  • Tutors and students meet in a virtual classroom via the internet and communicate using headsets with microphones to talk just like a regular phone conversation.
  • In addition to voice conversations students and tutors may use a chat window and a webcam can also be used to see view each other if parents and students agree.
  • Both student and tutor share a whiteboard on the computer screen that allows them to write or draw for better explanations.
  • Students and tutors can also share documents, images, files or applications on each other’s computer.
  • 3. Subjects, Grades, and Topics - Getting the right kind of help when a student needs it is very important for academic achievement, especially in subjects such as high school math and science. With a deeper grasp of math and science, students will have access to more academic and career opportunities.

  • Students can receive help in general math, pre-algebra, algebra 1, algebra 2, geometry, pre-calculus, trigonometry, or statistics.
  • Science courses include general science, physics, chemistry, biology, and earth sciences.
  • English tutoring will begin in fall 2007.
  • PSAT/SAT/ACT test preparations are offered.
  • Tutoring is available for middle to high school students, grades 6 to 12.
  • 4. Tutor Training – Penn Tutors are highly qualified and trained to tutor students.

  • The tutors have a bachelor or master’s degree in the subject matter, and many of them also have a B Ed.
  • Each tutor undergoes an intensive training in the art of tutoring, cross-cultural communications, motivation and American diction.
  • Senior trainers are certified from Crossroads Learning whose course is recognized by the National Tutor Association of the US.
  • All tutors receive continuous education from experts.
  • 5. Affordable Plans – Penn Tutors also offers three plans to suit individual needs.

  • Monthly subscribers receive 8 sessions a month for $20 each
  • Annual subscribers are allowed a total of 100 sessions per year for $16 each
  • On-demand sessions are $25 per session
  • Penn Tutors offers tutoring everyday from 3pm - 10 pm EST.
