Many distance education providers focus on the high school experience, since this is often where a disconnect from traditional schools takes place, either through bad choices that result in the need for recovery options or through personal choice.

While some companies are now beginning to offer online learning for younger grades, Connections Academy has already been providing a quality K-12 program for years. In fact, the school is the first national K–12 virtual public school provider to be recognized by the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA).

In addition to experience, the school also offers other advantages for students (and parents) looking for an alternative to a traditional school setting:

1. Parent Involvement

  • Parents serve as Learning Coaches responsible for their children's day-to-day activities.
  • Parents are supported with certified teachers, tutorials, an orientation program, and a community of parents.
  • Families receive comprehensive lesson plans, and exciting enrichment courses.
  • Online discussion boards and Web Mail allow students and parents to connect virtually with other members of their school and Connections Academy schools across the country.
  • Teachers and community coordinators plan field trips and other in-person activities to give students and their families the opportunity to connect face-to-face while they are learning.

2. Public Funded Expertise and Accountability:

  • No Cost - The program is free—including all of the books and curriculum.
  • Connections Academy offers a rigorous curriculum that meets or exceeds state standards.
  • Curriculum was developed by leading educational publishers.
  • Teachers are certified professionals who are specially trained for teaching in a virtual setting.
  • Teachers work together from centralized offices allowing for collaboration.
  • Teachers and administrators work together for greater oversight and accountability.
  • Students have access to a full range of core courses and electives for grades K-12.

3. Flexibility Of Online Classes:

  • The enrollment process is used to select courses based on students' individual learning needs.
  • Teachers can customize the education experience for each student.
  • Students can learn from home, but also from libraries, community centers, and from the road.
  • Students may adjust their learning schedule with the teacher to modify lessons based on personal abilities.

4. State-of-the-Art Technology:

  • In some states, families can even receive a computer, printer, and subsidy for Internet access.
  • Online communication, planning, and learning management tools are included.
  • Online lessons and library resources and technology literacy courses are available.

Keep in mind that there are important differences between Connections Academy online public school and homeschooling, traditional public schools, and other online or virtual programs.

The school believes its learning options works well for families that believe their child would benefit from a program that provides a personalized learning plan; can meet the needs of a child that is ahead or behind peers in subject and/or is bored, frustrated or intimidated in school; offers a flexible schedule and approach to learning; can accommodate a child who misses a lot of school due to illness or other issues; and/or supplies high quality textbooks, a curriculum aligned to state standards, and the support of certified teachers outside of a traditional classroom.

Families are invited to visit their Website to view their Program Guide. To learn more about the free public school from home, visit the Connections Academy Website to watch a demo of how the school works. They can also be reached toll free at 1-800-382-6010, support@connectionsacademy.com.
