A Trip to: Hershey, PA
The Sweetest Place On Earth
By Diane Flynn Keith
.
The aroma of sweet cocoa wafts through the air as you drive into Hershey, Pennsylvania, the town built on chocolate. Hershey is located in the beautiful, rolling green hillsides and farmland of Lancaster County, home of the largest Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish communities in the United States. .

Milton Hershey, the man who invented the Hershey Milk Chocolate Bar, chose this spot precisely because the farmlands of this countryside provided everything needed for a chocolate factory: a plentiful water supply, fresh milk from local dairy farmers, and a ready supply of industrious laborers.

Although the town of Hershey does offer Hershey-themed parks and attractions, it is unlike the pure fantasy world of many amusement parks. Hershey is a real town that was created for the workers of the Hershey Chocolate Factory. Initially, the parks and museums were created for the leisure and enjoyment of the workers and their families. Now, there is so much to do and see in Hershey that it is an ideal destination for families seeking a blend of fun and education in a day-trip, weekend excursion, or as a vacation stopover when touring central Pennsylvania.

In a recent visit to Hershey, we were amazed by all that the town had to offer. Our interests led us to museums, parks, and a zoo. We also discovered Hersheypark with over 60 amusement rides including a wooden roller coaster! We were surprised to find Hotel Hershey offering elegant accommodations, the Hershey Lodge with a casual setting for families, and even the Hershey Highmeadow Campground where families can pitch a tent, park an RV, or rent a log cabin. Hershey offers many restaurants, a golf course, a theatre, and even concerts and sports events for visitors' convenience and enjoyment.
