Education

Getting a Free Education
by B.R Christensen
This is a little, self-published book that has a very unique message. The author presents wonderful ways that people can give themselves a college education--for free. For example, one person wanted to get a job in computer software marketing but he did not have a college degree and did not have the money to get one. So, he interviewed marketing directors and asked them which classes they had found most useful and which seminars they thought were the best. He then read the texts for those classes and attended those seminars. After he had given himself a good business and marketing education, he interned with the Director of Marketing for a Software company. The computer companies fell over themselves trying to hire him--they were so impressed with his creativity and drive.

The Parents' Guide to Alternatives in Education
by Ronald E. Koetzsch Ph.D.
We love this book. The author writes very respectfully about all the alternatives. He describes each school setting in such detail that you almost feel as if you're in the classroom. This book is designed to help you decide what kind of education is right for your child.

How Your Child is Smart: A Life-Changing Approach to Learning
by Dawna Markova, Ph.D.
This book can help you understand your child's learning pattern. Which best describes your child? Show & Tellers (learn best through reading, shy away from sports), Seer/Feelers (learn best by doing, prefer working in groups), Leaders of the Pack (learn by teaching others, may have difficulty learning to read and write), Verbal Gymnasts (have to talk to understand, sports may be difficult), Wandering Wonderers (learn best in solitude, can become overwhelmed by listening) or, Movers & Groovers (need to be allowed to use their bodies in order to learn, reading and writing may be very difficult)." Great book.
