I am wanting to buy school supplies and I am finding myself wanting to go CRAZY and buy everthing in site!!!!

We are going to be going with K-12 through Cova and they supply all the books, science/math supplies, and computer. What else should I get for a Kindergartner other then basic school supplies. I know I am wanting to keep very organized and I have been on the Container store almost all day.

I went and put TONS of art supplies on lay-away(I did this so I could look around and see if I could find them cheaper) I also put the "basic" school supplies on too.

Any suggestions on MUST HAVE things?

The following is a list that our family found helpful:

·        Elementary – Bible, pencils, crayons, scissors, glue/glue sticks, colored construction paper, scratch paper, markers, notebooks, folders, lined penmanship paper, chalk.

·        Middle – High School – Bible, highlighters, pens, colored pencils, fine-line markers, mechanical pencils, calculator (multi functional – you can use later in college classes), erasable pencils, graph paper, 3-ring binders, college-ruled books (one for each subject), loose notebook paper, folders,  appointment calendar for homework assignments, composition notebooks, and journal.

·        General Supplies – tag board, dry-erase board and markers, Bible concordance, dictionary, thesaurus, heavy-duty stapler, electric pencil sharpener, scotch tape, computer/printer/ink cartridges/paper, back packs for each child (great for schoolwork on the go and outdoor field trips), multi-drawer plastic storage containers to hold supplies and completed schoolwork.

LOL, I had to chuckle at your post. Then I had to chuckle again when I read Janet's response.

We are an enthusiastic bunch, aren't we? We new homeschooling moms? Unbridled enthusiasm, unending energy, insatiable thirst for school supplies! LOL, I have an entire wall of my pantry (walk-in) literallt full of things I've bought here and there. "Oh! Sequencing cards! Oh, we need those! How will they learn to sequence without sequencing cards?!" Nevermind they could've just listed the steps for making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for me one day at lunchtime and I would've accomplished the same learning goals. I'm giggling with you, not at you. We are kindred spirits in this one :)

Janet's list is a good one. I'm just getting ready to start my third year, and I keep trying to simplify all the time. I've given some of my surplus away, but I'm still tempted to buy more cool school stuff.

One thing I really, really wished I had in kindergarten was a really good pencil sharpener. I just had a cheap little hand held deal I got at the grocery store. It was battery operated and sounded impressive, but it was a joke. I wasted a lot of time and graphite with that thing. I'm investing in an old school hand crank deal this year to mount on the wall inside my pantry. No more pencil madness! :)

Best wishes to you, Colorado.
May you find just the right amount, and the right kind, of stuff :)

Jacci
