I have a 2nd grade son who has had many issues w/processing
and retrieval literally in speech/special ed services since
2yrs old - looks like we'll be pulling him out of PS as
early as next week...in preparation - any suggestions on
books that deal specifically w/processing-retrieval issues?
Tough time w/spelling, reading, writing...appreciate any
insight!!

Been there too!  Turned out one of ours is an APD kid.  Some staticians put 70% ADD/ADHD kids are primarily APD, totally misdiagnosed and medicated.  Mine gets there when he gets there.  But he does get there.  Music therapy and Occ. Therapy were real life enhancing for him, as is homeschooling.  Like Sound Through Water a vey encouraging and helpful biographical book of one family's journey.  Best advice: become the expert, stay the advocate.  Blessings -

I work with children with learning difficulties and use a few basic
techniques: dot patterns for letter reversals; decoding word lists and
colored highlighters for reading; teaching math as a system instead by
memorizing; and studying by making flashcards.

I realize you posted long ago, but I'm new to the forum and saw this. In case you are still struggling....I have a daughter with APD, she was stuck at 2nd grade level for 2 1/2 years, then we did a program called Fast ForWord at a local learning center and she went up almost 2 grade levels in reading and language. It is pricey, and there is an online version at gemmlearning.com, but I have heard that having a teacher there with them to guide and teach them along with the computer is the ideal way. You might want to look into it.
