“Being an American” Essay Contest

“Being an American” Essay contest is underway again this year. It is the largest essay contest and is opened to all high school students between the ages of 13 to 19, including homeschoolers. Last year there were over 31,000 participants, and they expect to have far more this year.

Teachers can start submitted their student’s essays now and have until December 1, 2009 to submit all entries. This years contestants will answer “What civic value do you believe is most essential to being an American?”.

The first place prize is $5000. Second place will win $2,500. Third place will win $1,250. There will also be seven honorable mentions in each of the nine regions which will receive $250.

In addition, “Being an American” offers free lesson plans and ides to help your student in this competition.
