Want to be certain your first step into the world of higher education is the best one? Then we invite you to take a closer look at Cottey College. Cottey College, located in Nevada, Missouri, is a two-year, independent, residential, liberal arts and sciences college for women.

Cottey students come from a wide variety of backgrounds, and experiences, but they share a desire to grow intellectually and personally. Cottey will inspire you to achieve more than you ever imagined. It begins with our focus-the academic and personal growth of young women. It’s also expressed in the lives of our graduates who often say, “I discovered myself at Cottey.”

The successful Cottey student looks to broaden her self-confidence, the scope of her talents, and her worldview. Women at Cottey are ready to be challenged in the classroom, to take on leadership roles, to develop meaningful relationships, and to find a voice of their own.

A Two-Year College Offering Four-Year Experiences
At Cottey, we concentrate on what we do best-providing two years of very focused and rigorous academics to move you closer to earning a four-year degree. Cottey students fulfill the necessary general education requirements as they gain a solid liberal arts foundation and earn either an associate in arts or an associate in science degree. A Cottey education isn’t complete without the many clubs and activities available outside the classroom. We believe in offering our students abundant opportunities to learn new skills, polish their talents, take risks, and explore interests they have never before pursued.

Academic Adventures
When students sit in an average Cottey classroom with about 13 other women, they can’t help but be engaged in the learning process. Because Cottey faculty embrace their role as teachers and mentors, they focus on capturing our students’ intellectual imagination and helping them achieve their highest educational aspirations. “Above all, the teachers here are really interested in seeing you succeed.” That sentiment is echoed by many Cottey students.

Our academic program is divided into four divisions: Fine Arts, Humanities, Science and Mathematics, and Social Science. At Cottey, students are not pressured to declare a major; they are prepared to declare a major at their next college or university. Our faculty and our advisors in the Kolderie Academic Assistance Center are available to give students as much academic and career guidance as they need or want. They help our students map out a course plan that will ensure a smooth transfer.

A Community With a Global Focus
Every college campus has a distinct climate. Cottey is dynamic yet comfortable. You’ll find the Cottey community surprisingly diverse. Our students typically represent 12 different religions, 40 states, and about 15 countries. Missouri, California, Texas, Washington, Nebraska, and Iowa are the most common home states. Home countries of our international students include Bulgaria, Japan, Romania, Nigeria, Brazil, France, Mexico, Canada, and Kenya, among many others.

International travel appears to positively impact a student's world view. If only there were a way that all students could benefit from an international experience. At Cottey College, the ideal becomes actuality each spring with our International Experience. Second-year students spend the first week of spring break in a European city as culmination of the liberal arts experience. Thus far, London and Paris have played host to our students, faculty and staff. Rome/Florence Italy is our next destination.

Take The First Step To Shaping Your Future
Cottey College welcomes applications for admission from home-schooled students. Acceptance to Cottey is based on prior performance, academic aptitude and likelihood for success. Cottey has rolling admission, so early application is recommended. Students can contact the Office of Enrollment Management to request an application or they can apply online. Please visit our website for complete instructions on the application process and for information on our admission requirements.

Financing Your Cottey Education
The annual cost for the 2007-2008 year is $18,710. This includes tuition, room and board and all fees. Approximately 97 percent of the student body receives some form of need-based or merit-based aid in the form of scholarships, grants, campus employment, and loans.

Think of two years at Cottey as a big adventure in a small place. We’re offering you a personal and academic adventure that will put you on a direct course to a four-year degree, facilitate growth in your talents, intellect, and self-confidence, and foster relationships with peers and faculty that will enrich your life and extend well beyond your Cottey days. Cottey is an ideal place for a young woman exploring the many options to shape her future. Cottey might just be the best place for you.
