Your Search For Home School Piano Curriculum Is Over! Dear Homeschooler,Have you been looking for a piano curriculum that is geared for the home school child? Are you frustrated with the lack of quality you find in today's piano curriculum? I hear home school parents all the time who say that it's so tough to find any solid, foundational, yet simple piano curriculum. As a Christian piano educator since 1988, it has always been my goal to be the best piano teacher I could be. So, over the past 17 years I have spent many hours developing a "piano by ear" curriculum that really teaches students to play the piano by ear. It has become my passion to share my knowledge with home school students around the world who need a solid, foundational, yet simple piano curriculum.
Why My Piano Curriculum WORKS for Home Schoolers and their Parents These days time and money are important to all of us. I mean, let's face it, home school parents have taken on the extra responsibility of educating their children at home. I commend you for that!
But, in reality, you don't have extra time or money to spend driving your children to piano lessons and reading through piano books to understand the material. That's why our piano curriculum works for Home Schoolers. Plus, in addition to not wasting time, our piano curriculum fits perfectly into any classtime schedule and if you have more than one child in the home, ALL of them can benefit from this curriculum at no extra cost!
*No more expensive piano lesson costs per hour per child *No traveling to classes and scheduled commitments (...considering gas prices these days...wow! That's a true savings in itself!) *No thick boring music books
your child will never read *No prior music theory needed – Your child doesn't even need to read music *No more learning all the material first before you can teach your children *Your child can learn from the comfort of your home at a time that fits conveniently into your classroom schedule Here's a response I recently received by a home school parent:
Why Your Child Doesn't Have To Read Music To Play Piano Many people think that playing the piano by ear is only for "gifted" or "musically talented" people. And, you can't play by ear unless you play by note first. That is simply NOT true! Time after time I have seen students (especially children) take "by ear" lessons and parents are amazed at what their minds are capable of! First, let me
explain the difference between playing by note and by ear. Playing by note involves "reading" music that has been written by another person, the "composer". When the pianist plays by note, he/she must first learn how to "sight read" the music that is written on the sheet music. Those who play by note usually play ONLY what is written by the composer. This approach is very structured and methodical. Playing by ear involves using the piano as an instrument to make your own music. Yes, you play songs that other people have written, but you don't have to play each and every note that
is written into treble or bass clefts. In fact, students don't need the sheet music. When students play by ear, they can play any song they know in whatever key they want! And, as they learn different "styles" of music, they can play the same song in several different styles! The STUDENT has control over what they play and how they play it. They do not have to read the music from sheet music.
Here's how playing by ear works. When a student plays by ear, they use the knowledge they've learned about the piano as an instrument and how it is used to play the songs they love. They take this knowledge and simply pick out melodies, add chords, and play songs they know. Now don't get me wrong, I would never discourage anyone from learning to read notes. It has it's place, but, playing by ear allows the student to play the piano. They create it, they provide the accompaniment, and they are in charge of how the music sounds.
