Samaritan Ministries'
Christian Health Care Newsletter
A Biblical Idea Whose Time Has Come…Again!
Who Are We?
The Christian Health Care Newsletter provides a means by which Christians can share in all aspects of the medical needs of other Christians. Subscribers help each other directly with not only the financial need, but also the need for prayer and encouragement, through a unique ministry that does not involve insurance.
How Does This Work?
The Christian Health Care Newsletter is sent to subscribers each month. Along with the Newsletter, each subscriber receives the name, address, and a prayer request of another subscriber who has a medical need. The subscriber is asked to send their monthly financial gift to this person, include a note of encouragement, and pray for them.
What Is A Complete Approach To Medical Needs?
The motto of Samaritan Ministries is "Send a Note – Pay Your Share – Always Stay Alert In Prayer:"
- Send a note: Burdens can be lightened emotionally as we encourage one another in the Lord.
- Pay your share: Burdens can be lightened physically as we do our part to meet others' financial needs as they would in our time of need.
- Always stay alert in prayer: Burdens can be lightened spiritually as we unite to call upon God, Who can do the impossible.
Who Can Become A Subscriber?
To become a subscriber, a Christian must agree to the following practices:
- Regular church attendance (three out of four Sundays per month)
- Abstinence from:
- Tobacco and illegal drugs
- Alcohol abuse
- Sexual activity outside of heterosexual marriage
Subscribers provide verification from their pastor or church leader attesting to their faithfulness to these practices.
How Much Is the Monthly Share?
Since Samaritan Ministries subscribers began sharing needs in 1994, the monthly share amount has not exceeded the current levels of $70 for one person, $140 for two persons and single-parent families, and $175 for two-parent families (three or more persons).
Once each year there is also an annual administrative fee of $120.
Why Is the Monthly Share So Low?
- God answers prayer!
- Christian Health Care Newsletter subscribers agree to live a Biblical lifestyle in accord with the Biblical principles behind SMI. In addition to honoring Christ, this factor alone eliminates many high-risk health practices.
- Samaritan Ministries subscribers appreciate
the low monthly share, and often find creative ways to reduce their medical
costs.
- The direct need-sharing approach keeps
administrative costs to a minimum. Monthly shares are sent directly from one
subscriber to another.
- The Christian Health Care Newsletter is a
non-profit ministry, so monthly shares are not going toward paying dividends
to stockholders. (You won't find a 100-story Samaritan Ministries tower
looming over the downtown of some major metropolitan area!)
Why Does This Work?
The Christian Health Care Newsletter is effective because of our commitment to
four foundational principles:
- God is the Ultimate Source of provision for every need encountered by the Christian.
- A complete, balanced consideration of the medical need of a Christian must include attention to the areas of prayer, encouragement, and finances.
- It is the responsibility of those within the Body of Christ to allow themselves to be used of God to help in meeting the needs of other Christians.
- The local church is the first line of defense for meeting the needs of Christians. Samaritan Ministries is intended to support and supplement the work of the local body, not to undermine or replace what should be done locally.
