Homeschooling During the Holidays

Are you in the midst of planning for the holidays? Does homeschooling during this hectic time seem next to impossible? Well, it is possible and it's even easier than you think.

With so much going on - parties, travel and gift exchanges - it's nice to remember that we homeschoolers have it better than most. Learning takes place at our student's pace, not on a set schedule, and it can take place anywhere, any time. So, even when you're trying to balance a busy schedule, it can be quite easy to incorporate learning into your to-do list. Take cooking, for example. Here are just a few subjects you can brush up on while you're whipping something up in the kitchen with your children:

  • Math (measuring and counting)
  • Science (chemical and physical changes in food)
  • Literacy and communication (reading recipes and following instructions)

When you incorporate learning into everyday events and activities, you'll find that your schedule will be a lot more flexible and your children will discover that learning can take place outside of books and online curricula. In the process, you'll help instill a love of learning and a thirst for knowledge that will last a lifetime.

Looking to focus on the themes of family, giving and hope this month?
