Tussah Heera, a 13 year old homeschooler from Las Vegas, beat out 36 other Nevada middle school students to take the championship at the Nevada State Spelling Bee. She will go on to represent her state in the Scripps National Spelling Bee which will take place May 26-28 in Washington D.C.
I think it is totally cool that a homeschooler is a state spelling bee champion. A quick internet search turned up homeschoolers winning bees all over the place. I wonder how many homeschoolers won state spelling bees. How many homeschoolers will be in the finals at Washington D.C.?
I’ll see if I can find that out. Meanwhile, if you have any interesting information about your state’s spelling bee, please email me at [email protected].
