In February I reported on a Las Vegas group that has put its focus on community service. In that article I mentioned a fundraising event they were working on for the spring. Well, spring is here and the details have been finalized.

The Las Vegas Valley Homeschool Network will host their first event on May 13th from 10-3. The event, a field day and picnic, was originally planned as a 3 day event but organizers had to downsize due to the current economic situation.

The activities planned include relays and water activities. Children will participate according to age group. Everyone is invited to attend but those who are participating in the field day activities will have to buy a ticket at just $3.50.

Families attending are asked to bring gently used clothing and household items which will go to SafeNest, a local women’s shelter.  If you are in the Las Vegas area and want to attend please visit their site for more information and updates.

The goal of the Las Vegas Valley Homeschool Network is to bring homeschooling families together to get to know one another in the spirit of giving back to the community.

I think the idea behind what this group is doing is great. I know there must be similar homeschool groups out there. I’d like to hear about them and share their news with our readers. I can be reached at [email protected].
