Nevada just celebrated Home Education Awareness week March 30th-April 5th, and it turns out that Nebraska celebrates Home Education Week during the same time. I’m pleased to see state governments acknowledging and supporting homeschoolers.
I just read that Oregon is set to celebrate their Home Education Week May 3rd-9th. Homeschoolers in Oregon are encouraged to take part in Apple Pie Day on May 7th. Apple Pie Day is an opportunity for homeschoolers and their families to meet with their Oregon legislators.
The idea is that a good turn-out at events like this has a big impact on protecting our rights as homeschoolers. Our leaders see our numbers and that we care and that says something.
There are many events scheduled for Apple Pie Day. Each legislator and the governor will receive a homemade apple pie and a packet of information that promotes homeschooling. There will be a Home Education Freedoms class, a rally, a photo contest, and a performance from the Statewide Homeschool Choir. Those are just a few of the many events scheduled.
The celebration will take place at the Capitol and is sponsored by the Oregon Christian Home Education Association Network. If you are in that area I hope you take advantage of a wonderful opportunity and attend the festivities. It really looks like it is going to be a lot of fun.
If you do attend, please let us know how it went. Email me at [email protected].
