Clayton Smithey decided what he wanted to do and he went for it. The 18 year old has completed diving school and is now employed with a diving company.

Smithey went to a traditional school up until is junior year of high school. That was when he opted to homeschool through Gateway Christian Academy where he graduated early as an “A” student.

From there Smithey left home for the first time to pursue diving. He moved to New Jersey to attend Divers Academy International.  It is an intensive, full-time program but Smithey graduated with an academic excellence award.

Smithey had been accepted to the University of Memphis and had considered joining the Navy. But he passed up both to pursue diving. He now works for a reputable diving company, an opportunity that will take him all over the country.

Smithey gives a lot of credit to his parents who supported him at a time when he thought they’d think he was crazy. He was surprised that they were okay with his career choice. He says his dad has been a big inspiration to him.
