The First Day of Fall

For people living in the Northern Hemisphere, the first day of Autumn this year is September 23rd.

Did you know, that if you lived in the Southern Hemisphere–in parts of South America, parts of Africa, or in Australia or Antarctica, fall would actually begin in March?  What a great piece of information to give your kids!

The first day of autumn (fall) is celebrated on the fall equinox – a time when both night and day are equal.   After the 23rd, nights will lengthen until we reach the Winter Solstice in December.
