Bats are amazing mammals that play an incredibly important role in the ecosystem.  There are approximately 1,000 species of bats in the world, 44 of which are in the United States.

Sixty to seventy percent of the bat species throughout the world are insect eaters.  A single bat can catch up to 1,200 mosquitoes in an hour.  In addition, bat colonies protect crops.  When bat colonies are healthy, farmers can reduce their pesticide use.
