The California Homeschool Network is an inclusive, non-profit, statewide homeschooling organization serving families across a diverse spectrum of homeschooling styles and philosophies. Each year CHN hosts the CHN Family Expo, a 4 day homeschool conference for the entire family.
The 2014 Expo is located in the Los Angeles area at the Torrance Marriott South Bay Hotel in Torrance, California June 19 through 22.
Homeschoolers come together from all over the state of California to learn from one another and take part in sharing this unique homeschool experience.
There are activities for all ages, including a spelling bee, talent show, project fair, art workshops, fiber arts, story time, teen lounge, tween lounge, family village, entrepreneur sale, teen and family dances, High School Graduation ceremony, as well as educational and entertaining speaker sessions covering a wide array of homeschool topics.
Some of the featured speakers this year are Blake Boles, director of the company Unschool Adventures and author of “Better Than College” and “College Without High School”. Blake and his work have appeared on TEDx, The Huffington Post, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, BBC Travel, Ignite, and national TV and radio. Minli Virdone, is the Head of Strategy and Programs at Khan Academy. She is responsible for the Khan Academy’s work with partners and foundations around the world. Jeremy Stuart is the Director/Producer/Editor of the upcoming homeschool film “Class Dismissed.” Jeremy’s involvement in the television and film industry has spanned over 20 years. He has worked on hundreds of music videos, commercials, and corporate projects, as well as award winning documentaries and short films.
The first night of the conference, Thursday, June 19th is free to attend. CHN will be offering a Homeschool basics session that will cover the legal options to homeschool in the state of California as well as the basics of homeschooling methods. If you or someone you know are considering homeschooling, or are new to homeschooling this is a great opportunity to learn more about your options. Other events on Thursday night include activities in Family Village and the tween and teen rooms and opening night entertainment on the main stage.
Homeschool curriculum and resources will be available to purchase in the Vendor Hall on Saturday and Sunday.
