I wasn't sure where to put this, so I picked here because it's a subject for older students. Anyway-

I am looking at curriculum for my gifted 6/7th grader, who has a lot of areas of interest, but we don't necessarily need to go in depth for every one. I was wondering if anyone else has used (or considered using) the "for Dummies" books to learn about supplementary subjects? I'm thinking maybe starting him off with one of these for Politics. He's only 12, but he says he'd like to learn more about politics- I think a whole course would be a little premature this year, but maybe a "Politics for Dummies" book might be just a nice overview. Am I crazy? I know it wouldn't substitute for an actual Poli-Sci course, but as an intro, or an overview text (which I'll obviously supplement with some activities from Currclick or somewhere), what do you all think?

TIA
