Critical Thinking’s Product Reviews

Pre-K-Grade 12+
Prices vary (SO many products), but most workbooks are well under $20

I like! I have reviewed a number of their products in the past—and all their products have lived up to their name—they all required me to THINK—to REALLY THINK!

Their products teach critical thinking, reading, writing, math, science, history, test prep, technology, and more. offers books, e-books, computer software, individual fun items, bundles, and full curriculums—really, they have something for everyone! And it’s easy to check out products before you purchase. Most books have sample pages/activities and software demos can be found here.

For this particular review, I looked at the Jumbles workbook for Grades 3-5. The workbook covers prefixes, suffixes and compound words. Each Jumbles activity/lesson has two parts—an instructional page, followed by a jumble (puzzle). To solve the jumble, students must use critical and creative problem-solving skills as well as knowledge gained from the lesson. They must unscramble 8 jumbled words, and then solve a riddle. Multiple word meanings, synonyms, homographs, homophones, idioms, and figurative language all come into play. Sound easy? Not so!

How quickly can you unscramble these letters and make a word out of it—byeosid?

Give up?

The word is disobey.

After unscrambling 7 more (rather difficult) words, students can solve this riddle—What kind of pants do ghosts wear?

The answer Boo Jeans!

Jumbles can be completed individually or with a partner. As a mother/teacher, I bet you’ll be referring to the answer pages frequently!

You can try a free online demo of the Jumbles software, which features—

– Single-user login
– Self-grading
– Saves unfinished games
– On-screen instructions

– Thought provoking material

I previously reviewed a Critical Thinking product that I absolutely love—and that I do on my own. The Crypto Mind Benders® review can be seen here. You can download a free preview of this product here.

By the way, I’m not the only person impressed with—the number and variety of awards they’ve received throughout the years is downright impressive!
