The folks over at SimplyFun believe, as do homeschoolers, that–

  • Play is one of the best ways for children to learn – kids can learn academic, social and emotional skills, just by playing!
  • Playing (and learning) together as a family creates strong family bonds.

Because of this, SimplyFun designs toys for learning together and for connecting with one another as a family. SimplyFun offers

  • Fun board games, family activities, brainteasers, puzzles, puppets, and conversation starters–suitable for all ages.
  • Products that cover a wide range of academic subject areas, including language, math, spatial reasoning, critical thinking, life skills, and more.
  • Products that not only support and encourage academic growth, but products that support social and emotional growth as well.
  • High quality, built-to-last toys.
  • Safe toys–every product meets or exceeds ASTM standards.
  • Toys that are only available at/from SimplyFun.
  • Products that get recognized – SimplyFun received over 50 product awards last year!

We reviewed two products from SimplyFunDiggers Garden Match and Let’s Jet.

Diggers Garden Match is a game for preschoolers, that helps teach analytical thinking, counting, shapes, and colors. Players take turns matching tiles by color and shape, or both, and then add their points based on how many objects are on their matching tiles. Strategy comes into play as players figure out how they can turn their tile so that they can match the most shapes and earn the most points. And who starts the game? The player whose name has the least letters! Another learning opportunity! Kids can play by themselves or with others—and the doggy bone play pieces are darling.

You can see a video of the game here.

Let’s Jet teaches geography, world facts and strategy. Using the playing cards and distance markers, kids visit exotic locations from all over the world, while learning geography and fun facts about each country. Players earn a point for each Travel Card destination visited. They also get points for helping others, which I like. The game takes less than 30 minutes to play, is for 2-5 players, 8 years old and up, and comes with cute airplane markers. Players can start out basic and work to more advanced play. This is a really smart, well designed game! Colorful, charming—it makes you think—and it teaches geography in a really fun manner.

You can see a video of the game here.

I really appreciate the SimplyFun catalog—it’s so descriptive. The catalog provides general information about each product, including a video; product highlights; customer reviews; how the product relates to core curriculum; the specific skills the game strengthens; if it’s a good fit for special needs; and the catalog mentions extended play activities for every toy as well.
