Any suggestions for teaching kids to use technology such as the computer
and other devices when the parents know the bare minimum?

I would suggest, let them "have at it" on their own.  If they are interested, they'll figure out what they need to know.

This is how both my daughters learned how to make great slide shows on Powerpoint...something I don't know how to do.  We installed the program and they knew what the product should be - they'd seen a few powerpoint presentations before - and they just messed around for hours until they figured it out. It's amazing all the other things they've learned (and taught me) just from "playing around."

Yes I have to agree with Sandy, my dd in 8th grade is pretty amazing at this stuff and she has never had any formal training. W

When she turns 16 she can take a computer course at the community college.

Thanks. That is basically what I have been doing but kinda felt like I should
be doing more.

Nope, just give them access. If they want to learn
something specific and can't find resources, ask about
that and I bet someone can find a link. My oldest find
sites to teach herself how to do a website, etc. I do
try to keep up but no way can I really so I just teach
them some safety rules and get out of their way.
