Career Exploration High School Conference

Coming soon Back to Homeschool 2021!

A convention dedicated solely to helping you navigate those troublesome waters of homeschooling high school.

For most high school students finding direction for their future is of primary concern. Finding the tools and resources necessary to make an informed decision about the future is vital. This conference is designed to provide high schoolers with a better understanding of how to map their future. While this concern will be addressed, you’ll also find the help you need implementing the nuts and bolts of homeschooling high school, advice from college admission counselors, and viable options for alternatives to a college education. It’s a “can’t miss” combination that is sure to help you find success in homeschooling high school!

Both the SAT and the ACT are standardized tests that university-bound students must take. Your student can choose which test to take or take both. But, what’s the difference between the two tests? Does it matter what time of year your student takes the test(s)? Find out the answers to these questions and more with a presentation from NKY Tutoring! You’ll also want to check out College Prep Genius’ session on acing the SAT or ACT!

College…for Homeschoolers?

As a primary focus of our virtual convention, college prep is on our minds! That’s awesome for families with college-bound teens. To start, Time4Learning will lead a session titled “From Homeschool to College” designed to reassure Do colleges really recruit homeschoolers?homeschooling families that colleges not only accept homeschoolers; some also recruit homeschoolers!

Of course, when the time comes for your student to think seriously about college, one of the first things on your mind will no doubt be the costs. Would you believe that students can actually attend college for FREE? College Prep Genius will host a session about different ways to get scholarships and how students can get into the college of their choosing. In addition, Tel Library will host a session on making college affordable.

When the time comes to start applying to colleges, you’ll want to be sure your student has an official transcript on hand. Are you nervous about everything that goes into making a transcript? If so, you won’t want to miss another great session by College Prep Genius, this time on developing an amazing transcript for your students.

Getting There – Teaching the Basics
Before you can worry about high stakes testing and college admittance, you’ll want to be sure you’re teaching the basics in a way your students will understand. Jeffrey Mays from Novare will explain how you can make sure you’re getting the most out of your science curriculum. The best science curriculum should not only solidify scientific concepts but should also integrate across subjects and pull in math, history, and other areas. If your science isn’t doing this, you’ll definitely want to tune in and find out what you can do!

We often say one benefit to homeschooling is that our students come away from it with a sense of self-governance and independence that is self-taught. For many, this sense of self-governance comes naturally and is simply a by-product of homeschooling. For others, a little more effort is involved. For those who may need to put in some effort, Nicholeen Peck will be teaching a class on how you can create an environment that’s conducive to independence and where your learners will be motivated to self-govern themselves!

Both logic and rhetoric have a place in the adult world and as teachers, we see it around us all the time. Our students, however, may not see the value in being able to infuse these traits into a conversation. Dr. Perrin will explain the value of logic and rhetoric and how these two principles have meaning to our high school students far beyond simply preparing for a research paper.

Virtual Schooling

Finally, this virtual conference will touch on something that’s often been the topic of debate amongst homeschoolers: using a virtual school to homeschool. For some, it defies the true meaning of “homeschooling” when you use something government-run to assist you with your independent homeschooling. For others, it’s honestly just a life-saver; were it not for virtual schools, some would have to give up homeschooling completely. How do you feel about virtual schools? Do you see where they can be a valuable tool to homeschooling families? Regardless of your position, you’re sure to enjoy this informative class taught by Andy Wells at HomeschoolVirtual.com!
